BCCE and ALCE March 2012 Results

The results for the BCCE (B1) and ALCE (C1) March 2012 exam are now available.
Log on to the Orfeas platform on the HAU website to access your results. 

BCCE & ALCE Exams 2012

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the last day you can register for the Hellenic American Union's BCCE & ALCE examinations.

NOTE : The registration deadline has been extended to 9 March 2012.  (posted on 1 March 2012)


The BCCE (Basic Communication Certificate in English) is a B1 level exam which is administered by the HAU.

The ALCE (Advanced Level Certificate in English) is a C1 level exam, also administered by the HAU.

(B1 and C1 are levels of the Common European Framework. Read more about the CEF here.

The examinations will be conducted on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the examination centers announced by the HAU.

Michigan Advanced (C1 - ALCE) New Format and Content

As of January 2010 students are given a Results Report on a scale of 0-30 for every section.
In June 2011 candidates will take the Revised ALCE examination.

Revised ALCE Examination 

Listening 40 mins - 40 questions.

Part 1 (10 questions)

The graphs and tables will be replaced by 5 short dialogues. The questions will be printed in the candidate's booklet.

Part 2 (10 questions)

There are 10 multiple choice questions which are written in the answer booklet.

Part 3 (10 questions)

Each part is heard twice.

Part 4 (10 questions)

There are 10 multiple choice questions which are written in the answer booklet.

Grammar, Vocabulary , Reading 80 mins - 100 questions

Grammar : 40 questions

Vocabulary : 40 questions

Reading : 3 texts (approx. 500 words each) , 6-8 questions each

Writing 30 mins - 1 task

Candidates choose one out of two argumentative essay topics. (There will no longer be a report)

Speaking 11 - 13 mins

Part 1 : warm up 

Part 2 : discussion based on prompts

Part 3 : wider discussion on previous topic

Part 4 : arguing a case and supporting opinion
